What benefits do you get being an Almondco grower?
Almondco was built by almond growers for almond growers. We are an extension of their business. We believe it is in Almondco's interests to help our growers get the best possible returns. We expect our growers to be the best in the industry. That is why we have introduced knowledge sharing networks like the Orchard and Management Course, and the Almondco Quality System grower manual. Almondco has developed an international reputation for producing quality almonds that command premium prices and that's the way we want it to stay. If we can help growers in any way we will endeavour to do so.
What have your returns been like in recent times?
Growers returns have increased every year for the past five years and the soaring demand saw returns improve for a sixth consecutive year in 2005. That's the benefit of adhering to strict protocols in regard to quality right through the supply chain.
Is it possible for growers to keep track of their harvest deliveries?
Yes, at Almondco we have installed a new computer system that can provide its grower members with vital data pertaining to their harvest. Weekly receival advice can be issued to growers. The documentation will confirm what has been received, how much it weighed with a running tally of their supply for the harvest. This is followed by a grading advice per delivery and allows growers to monitor their harvest and know exactly what they have delivered. In addition growers can request details of almond quality, which we will supply through a series of coloured graphs. After harvest we can give you a complete break down of your crop in regard to quality, quantity and any foreign matter.
What is the difference between Almondco and other almond processors and marketers?
We are a grower-based organisation committed solely to the growers. The growers' interests come first. Our track record in producing quality almonds is one of the best in the world and that has given us an edge with many of our customers.
What is Almondco's formal quality accreditation?
Almondco is not the biggest almond processor in the world therefore we strive to be the best.
We set out to be the pre-eminent producer of quality almonds, fresh from the orchard and free of foreign material. Our quality specifications are tighter than most others and we have a dedicated, committed and trained workforce. In 2002, Almondco upgraded its quality accreditation to ISO9001:2000 with SGS International Certification Services Pty Ltd.
Does Almondco have a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points ( HACCP ) program?
Almondco's HACCP Certification combines the Codex Alimentarius principles for HACCP: good manufacturing practice, relevant standards and key management systems to ensure the food safety system is in line with international practices.
It also provides a means of ensuring that the system is working to its full potential and gives independent assurance to the customer and consumer. Almondco continually updates its quality and hygiene manuals, and its in-house quality assurance program is subject to regular self-assessment, customer audit and third party audit. Most of Australia 's almonds are grown alongside vineyards and, like a good vintage wine, quality almond production does not depend on top quality raw materials alone. Almonds must be processed carefully and this is where Almondco excels
Are there any employment opportunities at Almondco?
Almondco is fortunate that it has a very stable workforce. In event of extra seasonal labour being required at the Renmark factory a register of previous employees are used as an initial resource, followed by advertising in the local media.
